🔑 Key Advantages:

🛠️ What Is a Coventry Diehead Chaser?

v  Threading Tool System: Originally developed by Alfred Herbert, Coventry dieheads are specialized tools used for cutting external threads on cylindrical components.

v  Chasers: These are the replaceable cutting inserts that fit into the diehead. They come in sets and are precision-ground to match specific thread profiles.

v  Automatic Operation: The diehead opens automatically after completing a thread cut, making it ideal for high-volume production.

🔧 How It Works

v  Chamfer & First Tooth Cutting: The cutting action begins at the chamfer and first full tooth, while the remaining teeth guide the thread pitch like a nut.

v  Self-Guiding: Non-cutting teeth ensure accurate pitch and alignment.

v  Quick Changeover: Chasers can be swapped easily to change thread sizes or types, minimizing downtime.

📐 Thread Types Supported

Coventry chasers are available for a wide range of thread standards:

v  Metric (M)

v  Unified (UNC, UNF, UNEF)

v  British (BSW, BSF, BSP, BSPT)

v  American (NPT)

v  Special threads like BA, ME, BSCY, BSB, and more

🧰 Where They're Used

v  Turret lathes

v  CNC machines

v  Automatic screw machines

v  Ideal for batch production and continuous threading operations

🌟 Why They're Still Popular

v  Durability: Made from high-speed steel and built to last.

v  Precision: Excellent thread quality and pitch accuracy.

v  Versatility: Can be used across various machines and materials.

Legacy & Support: Namco Tooling now holds the original manufacturing specs and offers full support for Coventry chasers

⚡️Quick & Easy Installation – Installation Guide for SD/SDH Coventry Diehead Chasers

🔧 Mounting & Setup

v  Diehead Placement: Insert the die-head into the tailstock or carriage of a lathe. Secure the workpiece in a chuck.

v  Right-Hand Threading: Chasers numbered 1 to 4 are arranged clockwise in their designated slots. Fix in place with the cover plate.

v  Left-Hand Threading: Chasers numbered 1 to 4 are arranged counterclockwise in their slots and held by the same cover plate.

🔄 Chaser Replacement

v  Removing Chasers:

    1. Loosen the four screws on the cover plate.
    2. Rotate the cover plate counterclockwise to remove.

🔒 Diehead Closing Procedure

v  Close the head:

    1. Rotate the front handles counterclockwise until the locking pin clicks into its seat.

📐 Technical Operating Range:

v  Threading Speed: Recommended threading speed: 100–600 RPM, depending on material hardness, thread size/pitch, and chaser condition. (Always use coolant for finish-grade threads and longer tap life.)

v  Material Hardness: 0–20 HRC

v  Maximum Threading Length: Offers unlimited threading lengths on horizontal lathes, while supporting short-length threading applications on vertical drilling machines, milling machines, CNC, and VMC setups.

🛠️ Maintenance Note:

To ensure consistent threading accuracy and extended tool life, SD/SDH Coventry Diehead Chasers should be:

v  🔧 Kept Clean & Sharp: Regularly inspect and clean chasers to prevent chip buildup and dull edges.

v  💧 Use Proper Coolant: Always apply cutting fluid during operation to reduce wear and improve finish.

v  📐 Check Seating & Alignment: Ensure chasers are correctly seated in the die head for uniform thread cutting.

v  🔄 Rotate Usage: Alternate between sets in heavy-duty production to avoid premature wear.

v  🛡️ Trial Verification: Perform a trial cut after installation to confirm thread size and accuracy.
